The day started with rain as we awoke, but stopped by the time we loaded the bus. We ate a delicious breakfast and were on our way by 7:00 AM. Our first stop was the World War II Memorial. It is beautiful and so nicely designed. It is a real tribute to those who fought in World War II. There are some pictures below.
From there, we went to The International Spy Museum. We crawled through air vents. We learned how to take notes, pick locks, and do other cool things. One of the presentations said that Benjamin Franklin and George Washington both were involved in spying. So was Julia Childs.
Our next stop was Ford's Theater. We saw a new play that told the story about the day Lincoln was shot. We are the first class from St. Thomas that can say "We saw a play at Ford's Theater." There is a museum in the basement of the theater that houses a number of artifacts from Lincoln's presidency and his assassination.
We did some souvenir shopping, and then went to lunch at the Old Post Office Building.
The best part about lunch was that after we ate, we went up in to the tower at the Old Post Office Building. This is the third highest point in Washington, and it gave us 360 degree views of the city. It was very cool.
After lunch we went to the National Archives. We saw the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Not copies-the REAL ONES. The guard told us that there is no treasure map on the back of the Declaration. However, it was handled so poorly in its first years that it is almost totally faded.
IT IS 11:00 PM, and we have to go to bed! We will write more in the morning. We hope. Sorry if things were so sloppy yesterday. We were working on the site very late and early this morning. We tried to fix them.
